WHAT IS LGM-35A SENTINEL ?
The United States Air Force is in the process of replacing its current weapon system called the Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system. This is a land-based missile system with silo launching capabilities. Its role is to provide strategic deterrence for our nation. This system was installed in the 1950s and has stood watch to deter major conflicts and maintain stability for our unsettled world.
Our nation will invest $86 billion into the modernization of our ICBM fleet, which is the backbone of the deterrence triad. The new replacement has been named the LGM-35A SENTINEL Missile, a Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) weapon system.
